About the role

Doubleday, an imprint of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group and home to some of the most iconic authors in the world including Dan Brown, Bonnie Garmus, Percival Everett, David Grann, Hampton Sides, Margaret Atwood, and Colson Whitehead, is seeking a Sr Marketing Director to develop, lead, and oversee all aspects of marketing strategy for 60 major fiction and non-fiction titles per year, helping to propel Doubleday’s storied history as a leader in literary and commercial publishing forward.  This role reports to KDPG’s SVP, Publishing Marketing and Backlist Strategy.

 

The Sr Director will work closely with our authors and their agents, as well as Doubleday’s publisher, editors, publicists, and Penguin Random House’s corporate sales, consumer insight and communication colleagues. The Sr Director will manage a team of three marketers, allocating resources efficiently while also hands-on managing campaigns for major releases.

 

The ideal solutions-focused and data-oriented candidate will have extensive experience working with high-profile authors and a proven track-record of success in launching and sustaining bestsellers. They can plan and execute marketing campaigns and manage budgets; and will thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Candidates should have excellent communication and presentation skills and management experience, as well as the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment. Preference will be given to candidates with proven experience planning and executing campaigns for critically and commercially successful adult fiction and non-fiction titles.

 

The Role:

 

  • Works closely with the publishing team, as well as the integrated marketing team, to create, communicate, and implement data-driven, results-oriented campaigns for a variety of titles, both fiction and non-fiction.
  • Collaborates directly with publishers and editors to communicate and execute plans.
  • Clearly identifies the potential audiences for a publication and continually refines targeting and messaging to expand the readership for every book.
  • Supervises, mentors, and develops a team of three marketers who are responsible for 60 hardcovers and trade paperbacks per year.
  • Translates Doubleday’s brand across a variety of marketing tactics, including the content and growth strategies for imprint social platforms.
  • Flexibly manages book promotion plans and budgets that grow and change over time.
  • Works with authors to maximize campaign effectiveness, including increasing social media platforms and brand awareness
  • Leads internal meetings, as well as meetings with authors, agents, and sales
  • Leverages resources and analytics for more effective targeting and messaging.
  • Pitches organizations, VIPs, social media influencers, and partners for cross-promotional opportunities for single titles as appropriate and in concert with larger team.
