Education and Work Experience:

  1. Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
  2. Work/Professional Experience: 18 years of age or older; Must hold a valid Food Handler Card or must obtain it within first week; some kitchen experience recommended

Scope of Position:

The Dishwasher & Kitchen Assistant is responsible for maintaining the kitchen dishwasher room, providing assistance to the Head Cook in prepping needed items for meals, assist with janitorial duties in both the kitchen and dining room areas, and any other kitchen duties as assigned by the Head Cook or Operations Manager. The Salvation Army reserves the right to revise or change job descriptions and/or duties as the need arises.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Must have the ability to present oneself in a professional and appropriate manner.
  2. Must have a current Food Handlers Card and Certification as required by the Health Department. Knowledge and comprehension of practices in safe food handling.
  3. The ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information and documentation.
  4. Must be willing to learn of kitchen procedures and food safety.
  5. Basic knowledge of janitorial procedures, such as cleaning floors and tables.
  6. Must be willing to learn simple skills to prepare aspects of meals being cooked.
  7. Must have the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
  8. The ability to interact with other staff members and the public in a positive manner.
  9. Must become familiar with The Salvation Army’s mission and local ministries.
  10. Be able to represent the ideals of The Salvation Army in every aspect of his/her work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Each employee of The Salvation Army, Medford Citadel Corps, is responsible for engaging with individuals without discrimination, upholding the mission of The Salvation Army to nurture and develop the spirit, soul, and body of each person we serve.

Kitchen Duties:

  1. Wash dishes, glasses, pots & pans and silverware by hand or with the dishwasher machine.
  2. Make sure the dishwasher area is kept clean. Straighten counters and sink areas after meals conclude.
  3. Wash kit
