Administer and coordinate the technical activities of a research group (the Brissette laboratory), while contributing to the scientific output of this group by assisting Dr. Brissette in her current studies.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform Research Experimentation, Analysis, and Data Presentation/Publication

1. Perform experiments using current molecular biology techniques including but not limited to nucleic acid extraction, quantitative real time PCR, cloning, Western blotting, ELISA, standard microbiological techniques including transformation and plating of bacteria including B. burgdorferi
2. Analyze Data
3. Present & publish data 

 Laboratory Management

1. Upkeep and ordering of supplies
2. Inventories
3. Manuals
4. Safety protocols
5. Personnel training  

Required Competencies

1. Familiar with operation and organization of a molecular biology lab
2. Familiarity with spreadsheets and graphing systems
3. Exceptional organizational skills
4. Work well with others

Minimum Requirements

1. B.S. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related field
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a molecular biology, biochemistry, or microbiology lab
3. Experience in lab equipment maintenance
4. Experience in scientific writing
5. Experience in training personnel, especially students
6. Successful completion of a Criminal History Records check

Preferred Qualifications

1. M.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related field
2. Advanced techniques in molecular biology
3. Familiarity with genetic manipulation of Borrelia burgdorferi, biochemical and immunological techniques
