Critical Care Pharmacist –Medical Intensive Care Unit and Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit

The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is a 32-bed ICU located at the Saint Marys Campus of Mayo Clinic Hospital—Rochester. The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NeuroICU) is an 18-bed acute patient care area located at the Saint Marys Campus of Mayo Clinic Hospital—Rochester. Critically ill adults are admitted to the appropriate ICU, i.e., MICU or NeuroICU, from the Emergency Department, hospital wards within Mayo Clinic, or transferred directly from outside institutions with a variety of diagnoses (e.g. MICU - asthma/COPD exacerbation, drug overdoses, gastrointestinal bleeds, severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis and septic shock; or NeuroICU - multiple of neurologic conditions and needs).
Both programs are academically focused on teaching, quality improvement, and high-quality scientific research. The Critical Care Pharmacist will serve alongside exceptionally talented staff and receive uninhibited support from the Department of Pharmacy, Critical Care Leadership, and Mayo Clinic.

Nearly 250 pharmacy staff attained academic rank in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and are being increasingly recognized on regional, national, and international stages. Our department’s pharmacy residency has been accredited by ASHP since 1973. It has grown to become the primary training site for 21 pharmacy residents including 15 various specialty residencies, 12 longitudinal local pharmacy students, and 9 pharmacy summer interns from around the country. Our staff also regularly interface with and educate medical trainees including physician residents and fellows.
Provides medication management services in coordination with other health care professionals to deliver safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapy to patients. Responsibilities may include assessment of medication therapy regimens, medication therapy management, medication order verification/entry, medication distribution, medication therapy monitoring, and consultation, documentation of medication therapy plans, and medication use education and pharmaceutical care services. Participates in collaborative practice and/or protocol-driven practice as appropriate. Additionally, pharmacists are active members in quality improvement, research activities, and education as described in the job specific competencies.
The position will be rotating day, evening, and weekend shifts (every fourth weekend). Salary is based on experience and training.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of critical care experience without residency, OR PGY1 residency plus three years critical care experience, OR PGY2 residency or fellowship training in critical care.
- Evidence of ongoing scholarly pursuits including research/quality improvement, publications, or scientific presentations.
- Relevant applicable pharmacy experience working in a progressive and collaborative practice environment.
- Experience and/or interest in teaching and/or precepting.
License and Certification
- Preferred Certification: BCCCP within one year of hire, if not already present
- State Licenses Required: Minnesota (may not independently fulfill responsibilities reserved only to a pharmacist until license is obtained)
