About the role
Appfire is hiring a full-time Senior Manager and Head of Data Engineering!
In this key role, you will be responsible for Appfire’s central data asset, driving the next phase of data-driven decisions and data products by creating and executing an enterprise-wide data strategy. Our Data Engineering organization is responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing data pipelines across the company and managing our central data asset, Firelake (Snowflake Data Cloud).
You will lead a team leveraging a variety of tools that connect, describe, and activate our data ecosystem, utilizing technologies such as DBT, Airflow, Airbyte, Fivetran, Hightouch, AWS, Astronomer, Sigma, and more. You will identify best-in-class solutions and implement engineering processes that set Appfire up for long-term data success.
As a key leader within our central Data Insights team, you will provide expertise to support company-wide data initiatives. You will design and guide our data stack strategy, leading a team of Data Engineers while also contributing hands-on as an individual contributor. You will develop strong relationships across Appfire, ensuring a deep understanding of business data needs and pathways to solving them while informing systems both internal and external to Firelake. You will maintain a vision for the future of Appfire’s data stack and chart the path to get there.

This role requires you to work remotely from East Coast (U.S.) time zone to align with global team time zones.
Your everyday tasks will include:
- Lead Appfire’s data ecosystem, defining a vision for what data means to the company and executing a roadmap to achieve that vision.
- Manage and grow a global team of Data Engineers, developing solutions that connect, monitor, and activate our data ecosystem while improving its robustness, capabilities, and cost-effectiveness.
- Push the boundaries of Firelake through experimentation and integration across the company, including AI/ML, Data Products, APIs, and Services.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure consistency, efficiency, and a single version of the truth for company-wide data.
- Own Data Governance standards in partnership with executive leadership.
Skills and experience you'll need to succeed:
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with expertise in data ecosystem architecture and best practices.
- 4+ years of experience leading Data Engineering teams and subject matter experts.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects at both the individual contributor and team levels.
- Proven experience building and executing company-wide data strategies under a unified vision.
- Experience rallying a team around a shared purpose.
- Python, SQL, AWS, DBT, and Snowflake experience required.
- Experience with production model pipelines and Data Science / Machine Learning stacks is preferred.
- Experience working and leading in a remote-work environment.
