About the role

Description

The Community Relations Team aims to position OIST as a research university that is open and accessible to the local community, contributing to the development of Okinawa through science events and educational programs that support capacity building. We also offer guided campus tours for the general public, host school visits, and coordinate special visits from external organizations. In addition, we play a key role in strengthening collaboration both within and beyond the institution to advance our outreach initiatives.

 

  1. Plan and organize science educational programs such as lectures, events, workshops, internships and other activities aimed at capacity building.
  2. Coordinate and facilitate campus visit programs for students and the general public.
  3. Plan and organize cultural events such as performing arts and exhibitions, etc.
  4. Strengthening collaboration with municipalities and external organizations.
  5. Foster internal collaboration within the institution.
  6. Handle incoming phone calls and respond to external inquiries.
  7. Process purchase orders and travel requests using the accounting system.
  8. Maintain and update the section's website.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

(Required)

  1. A bachelor’s degree in education, communications, public relations, social sciences, or community development, or 2-5 years of experience in relevant fields
  2. Business level English (TOEIC 800 or higher) and native level Japanese
  3. Strong verbal communication skills, particularly in interactions with stakeholders
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  5. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

(Preferred)

  1. Experience in science communication
  2. Knowledge of basic science, experience in science education
  3. Work experience in an international environment
  4. Work experience in a customer service-related role
