Description

We are recruiting an experienced HGV Driver for our site in Leicester.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering, picking up, and exchanging skip/roll-on/off and/or trade/FEL bins across various environments, while maintaining excellent customer service and ensuring a high level of awareness regarding health and safety for themselves and others. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for safeguarding your own health and safety, as well as that of others, while actively promoting a positive health and safety culture within the workplace. 
  • Report any safety concerns, hazard observations, accidents and incidents in a timely manner to allow full investigation and prevent re-occurrence 
  • Complete daily pre-start vehicle inspections and submit to Transport dept
  • Report all accidents, vehicle defects, breakdowns 
  • Ensuring compliance with Duty of Care regulations by inspecting waste and completing waste transfer notes, sheeting all loads to ensure secure transit of waste on the public highway 
  • The completion of relevant tickets or the use of the handheld device (As appropriate), detailing the necessary information and obtaining a customer signature 
  • Ensuring skips placed on the road have a road permit, and lights and cones are placed around the skip as detailed in Company procedures 
  • Ensure that health, safety and welfare standards are maintained in accordance with the Company’s safety policy, Risk Assessments, Safe Working Procedures and Instructions 
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the driving cab Advise management of any abnormal situation that cannot be dealt with 
  • Assist in the control and co-ordination of work to ensure efficiency and productivity 
  • Ensure the delivery of excellent customer service 
  • Identify and communicate any areas for improvement
  • Actively take part in the driver debrief at the end of each shift highlighting any safety issues, vehicle defects and recommending route and customer improvements 
This is not an exhaustive list. You may also be required to carry out any other duties as required by the business that you are qualified/trained in that meet the scope, spirit and purpose of this role 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • HGV Licence
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
  • Some experience in vehicle maintenance. 
  • Previous experience with waste collection vehicles
  • Mechanical experience with LGV/HGV’s
