We deliver world-class service to all of our clients, from wealth advisors to family offices to endowments and foundations.

About this Role

At BlackRock SMA Solution we obsess over our clients: we put them front and central to everything we do. We are growing rapidly in terms of revenue and as a technology team. This role’s mission is to help us scale our technology organization efficiently. The focus of this role is to own efforts specific to:

- Technology strategy and execution

- Technical project management 

- Agile Software Development

- Agile sprint ceremonies & artifacts

- Technical documentation

- Technology governance and compliance

Our technology platforms are based on microservice architectures with our web application interfacing with users. We practice agile software development and work in two-week sprints. This role works closely with all other members of our technology team as well as members of our project management team and end users. The role is perfectly suited for a technologist that enjoys organizing and advancing complex software platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Help lead engineering programs that aren’t necessarily products. Think about improving performance and stability of the platform, migrating from a monolith to micro services architecture, etc.

• Own the execution of long-term technical debt cleanup efforts. Think about complex efforts that span across various tech teams that need to be managed and synchronized.

• Lead one-off, but complex and important projects. Think about leading full platform redundancy for the purposes of disaster recovery.

• Define and maintain engineering brand (and engineering blog). Think about broadcasting the critical work that the engineering team performs, organize events where engineering teams can share their learnings, etc.

• Facilitate sprint ceremonies and act as a scrum master for multiple teams.

• Drive engineering learning and development. Think about defining and driving programs to onboard engineers faster, while investing in them and their careers.

• Work with engineers on producing and maintaining technical documentation.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in technology management, business administration, computer science, software engineering, or another relevant field

• Five-plus years’ experience in a similar role

• Knowledge of software development lifecycle and technology in an enterprise context

• Familiarity with modern technologies, e.g. Cloud ecosystem(s), microservice architecture, relational / document databases and ability to perform user acceptance testing for technical initiatives

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a smooth collaboration with engineers and other teams

• It’s preferable if you’re proficient with programming languages and some coding, we prefer that you have a working understanding of JavaScript and Python.

• Leadership experience in product planning, management, and / or project management

• Experience being a scrum master for multiple teams working on the same platform

• Ability to work in fast-paced interdisciplinary environment


 

For San Francisco, CA Only the salary range for this position is USD$180,000.00 - USD$215,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
