Position Summary:

Under the supervision of Environmental Manager, oversee the management of natural resources within the current and historical land base of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. This is a grant funded position.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Supervise Natural Resources Technicians and Seasonal Technicians by providing daily leadership, communication and direction.
  • Conduct Annual and Probationary Performance Reviews for Natural Resources Technicians.
  • Review all grants written by Natural Resource Specialists and/or Natural Resources Technicians before submitting to Environmental Manager for submittal.
  • Develop and initiate natural resource programs in response to notices and announcements received from potential funding sources.
  • Develop and initiate forestry programs in response to notice of funding announcements received from potential funding sources.
  • Develop and supervise the Tribal Land Management program within the Tribal Planning Department.
  • Develop, initiate and supervise Wild Rice programs in response to notice of funding announcements received from potential funding sources.
  • Obtain any necessary Permits from relevant Agencies to perform duties.
  • Supervise field tasks that such as inventory, monitoring, surveying, planning, plantings, invasive species treatment, land management activities, forestry management, etc.
  • Research and compile information as needed.
  • Provide information and assistance to the public regarding natural resource issues.
  • Present information in classroom or other public settings, including event booths.
  • Provide outreach and education to the Tribal community.
  • Identify and manage natural resource restoration projects, including wild rice.
  • Collaborate with partnering agencies to address issues impacting natural resources, and to maximize funding.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Grants & Contracts with grant writing and reporting needs.
  • Mix, load, and apply herbicides as necessary.
  • Operate, maintain, repair and calibrate equipment including chainsaws, boats, ATV, tractors, and other equipment as necessary. Safety precautions must be followed at all times.
  • Maintain vehicles and equipment used.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
