About the role

At PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL), we believe that every person has the right to participate fully in the global economy. Our mission is to democratize financial services to ensure that everyone, regardless of background or economic standing, has access to affordable, convenient, and secure products and services to take control of their financial lives.

Job Description Summary:

“Just Venmo me.” You may have heard or used this phrase before. Venmo has verb-status and is deeply woven as a brand into the social fabric of our culture. But Venmo isn’t just about payments. It’s about community. It’s where your money finds meaning as you share, connect, and split purchases with friends and loved ones. People love sending money and paying with Venmo, and we've come a long way from our humble beginnings as a P2P app. Millions of users have now also made products such as the Venmo Debit Card and Venmo Checkout a part of their lives, and there’s so much more we can do as their go-to for simple, social and rewarding payments.

The Venmo Marketing team is a critical driver of Venmo’s growth trajectory, and the Customer Engagement team within Marketing specifically drives increased frequency of use and monetization among Venmo’s 90M+ users. As the Head of Engagement Marketing, you will lead a team that owns the entire consumer and seller journey on Venmo from initial activation through to deep engagement and retention. You’ll influence the full mix of marketing channels that come together within that experience, and your team will particularly run Lifecycle channels including email, push notifications and in-app placements.

Job Description:

What you’ll do:

  • Set a vision for distilling Venmo’s Brand and GTM strategies down into actionable consumer and seller journeys within channels that touch our existing base

  • Drive a culture of customer-centricity and experimentation on the Engagement Marketing team, radically simplifying anywhere there is fragmentation today

  • Lead a team of six marketers that manage all email, push notification and in-app marketing. Oversee the Engagement Marketing roadmap, forecasting and performance cadences

  • Optimize our customer contact strategy – defining the role of each channel, creating coordination across marketing and servicing touchpoints and also refining communication guardrails such as frequency caps which appropriately balance financial and customer objectives

  • Partner with the Acquisition & Paid Marketing team, including on creating the right hand-offs in the new or reactivated customer journey

  • Shape the Early Life strategy and approach from sign-up start through product habituation, cross-sell and up-sell in close partnership with Product and Risk

  • Scale multi-touch churn arrest programs, leveraging models, incentives, and key products to step-change churn saves

  • Oversee the Analytics and Capabilities agenda for Engagement Marketing, inputting into the broader Marketing roadmaps for each with an emphasis on machine learning and artificial intelligence

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • 10+ years of experience including 4+ years in Growth Marketing and people leadership

  • A deep understanding of owned channel marketing and particularly email, ideally in an environment supporting a wide product portfolio

  • Experienced marketing leader, having successfully grown a consumer-facing online business or app. Proven ability to holistically run a high performance team. An inspiring leader who communicates well, has gravitas and credibility. Proven leadership experience with ability to lead in a multi-matrix environment.

  • Customer Champion with demonstrated track record in designing marketing solutions with customer at center

  • Winning Engagement Marketing Strategies – you have implemented game changing ideas that have changed the course of businesses and brands

  • An ability to influence across multi-disciplinary teams and advocate for the resources your team needs to increase their impact on Venmo’s growth

  • Sharp analytical skills and understanding of incrementality-based marketing measurement

  • Empathetic leadership and an ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment

  • Bachelor’s required, MBA preferred

  • Experience with Braze, Simon Data or Adobe a plus
