JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Penn State Abington has an opening for a part-time evening Library Assistant. The typical schedule is working on-site two to three days a week, Monday through Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. This position pays $15 an hour.
Job responsibilities include assisting campus and community patrons with basic circulation and research help requests. Duties include checking out library materials, processing new books and journals, shelving, and assisting librarians and staff on other projects as needed. This position is also responsible for closing the library and monitoring the library environment.
Penn State Abington is a suburban campus of 3,100 students located in the north Philadelphia suburbs. Most of our students are Black, Indigenous, or People of Color, and we seek applicants who are committed to working with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. Applicants should have strong interpersonal skills and put an emphasis on customer service. Success in this position will require attention to detail, computer skills, a high degree of dependability and flexibility, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Previous library experience is preferred, though we will provide training and support for someone looking to gain experience in an academic library, such as a library school student.
