Director, Data & Information Architect

<p><b>This is what you will do:</b></p><p><span>Alexion is looking for a sharp-minded, assertive, and energetic data leader who will be responsible for developing data strategies to support the delivery of technical projects/programs to meet the short- and long-term data goals.  They should be able to architect and design data solutions to meet demands across the company, driving value from information. </span></p><p><span>We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Modeler with a strong background in Commercial and Finance within the biopharmaceutical industry whose passion is understanding how to best manage healthcare data to drive business innovation.</span></p><p><span>This individual will play a critical role in the success of the Alexion organization. S/he will be a highly visible IT leader with an interface to all levels of Alexion leadership. S/he will partner cross-functionally to proactively identify opportunities and to enable better decision making at Alexion. </span></p><p><span>The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing data models, ensuring the availability of high-quality data for analysis and decision-making. Additionally, this role will involve aspects of information architecture to ensure that the data models align with the overall information strategy and architecture within the organization.</span></p><p><span>The individual must be confident and be client-oriented, an exceptionally strong collaborator, capable of contributing innovative thoughts and ideas to create meaningful value for the functions and for the enterprise. S/he must also adopt corporate leader competencies; attract and develop top talent, drive results, possess a strategic mindset, mange ambiguity and complexity, and drive engagement.</span></p><p></p><p></p><p><b>You will be responsible for:</b></p><ul><li><span>Collaborate with global, cross-functional teams to understand the data requirements of Commercial and Finance departments and ensure alignment with the overall information architecture</span></li><li><span>Model, design, and implement architectural strategies to meet stated requirements for metadata management, operational data stores and Extract Transform Load (ETL) environments</span></li><li><span>Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models to support Commercial and Finance business groups - including sales, marketing, medical, patient support programs, market access and finance</span></li><li><span>Implement best practices for data modeling, data governance, and metadata model to deliver FAIR data to support self-service business analysis capabilities and support Alexion’s mission of using data as a product.</span></li><li><span>Lead efforts to optimize and streamline data models to improve data accessibility, performance, and scalability within the context of the broader information architecture strategy</span></li><li><span>Educate executive, business and IT team members about the business value of FAIR data and data management capabilities. Lead conversations </span><span>about functional data structures to support business decision making, translating business requirements into actionable plans for development teams</span></li><li><span>Collaborate with leadership and within IT to support cross-functional strategies and tactics using data, which contribute directly to the growth and optimization of Alexion’s business</span></li></ul><p></p><p><b>You will need to have: </b></p><ul><li>A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or other related scientific or technical discipline is preferred.</li><li>Minimum of 8 years of experience in data modeling, data architecture, data access and discovery frameworks</li><li>Knowledge of taxonomies, ontologies and semantic standards for data integration</li><li>Highly motivated self-starter who can work in matrix environment with the confidence and ability to present complex information concisely and effectively to all audiences, including senior leaders and groups</li><li>Experience designing models to consolidate and analyse structured and unstructured data, from diverse sources including “big data” sources</li><li>Expertise in data modeling tools, such as Snowflake, IDERA/ERwin, ER/Studio, or similar, with an understanding of how they fit into the broader information architecture landscape</li><li>Strong analytical, logical thinking and organizational skills, backed by a logical approach, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously</li><li>Data warehousing methodologies and modelling techniques (Kimball, 3NF, Star Schema, Dimension modelling, Data Marts, Operational Data Stores)</li><li>Exceptional verbal and written communication and creative problem-solving skills including the ability to convey data design insights in actionable business terms</li></ul><p></p><p><b>We would prefer f
