Position Summary:
A Research Assistant 2 position to assist Professor Sharf in her collaborative project with an industrial partner. The research project will involve development and evaluation of vision-based schemes to estimate grapple (end-effector) pose and joint angles of the crane of a log-loading machine
Qualifications:
The candidate must have a Master's degree in Mechanical engineering with a thesis on a robotics topic.
Some prior knowledge related to autonomous solutions for timber-harvesting machines is an asset.
Responsibilities:
Conduct a literature review of state-of-the-art vision-based schemes for estimating the pose of objects and end-effector of a robot manipulator.
Propose and formulate a strategy and an algorithm to estimate end-effector pose.
Implement the algorithm in Python and integrate it into an existing simulator of log-loading crane.
Test and evaluate performance of grapple pose estimation algorithm on the FPInnovations crane test-bed.
