This is a key position on the plant lead team and the incumbent must have high initiative and exceptional leadership, collaboration, and team building skills.  The role of the Area Manager is to lead the achievement of quality, safety, delivery, productivity, and cost goals for the area and to drive continuous improvement through the use of lean manufacturing principles.

 

Your Day to Day:

  • Manage and own all aspects of area performance and develop and execute strategies to continuously improve upon on-time and in-full delivery of high-quality manufactured tubes in a safe and cost-effective manner
  • Establish area and individual objectives, monitor performance, and provide feedback and coaching to ensure objectives are met
  • Direct, mentor and develop area personnel in achieving area and plant goals.  Manage a group of Team Leaders (first-line supervisors) as direct reports who supervise the day-to-day shop floor activity.  Develop the skills of the group
  • Own and lead a robust daily management paradigm with embedded problem-solving to drive accountability and achievement of metrics
  • Collaborate with functional groups such as EHS, Product Assurance, Engineering, Maintenance, and Operational Excellence and direct the integration of these resource groups toward solving technical and other problems to achieving area performance goals
  • Lead projects, direct and facilitate problem-solving, and utilize lean manufacturing and digital tools to improve performance
  • Manage area budget to achieve forecasted spend
  • Manage area staffing to ensure achievement of area and plant objectives
  • Effectively interface with union representatives to establish and maintain a working relationship which promotes the efficient production of tubing
  • Positively model and champion a results-oriented accountability culture.  Create an environment that encourages and supports employee participation through involvement in problem-solving, decision-making, and implementing change
  • Maintain high employee morale in an environment of dynamic production load requirements and technological changes
  • Model and ensure Nuclear Safety behaviors.  Develop and implement plans for meeting customer requirements; ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, nuclear and government regulations
  • Implement standards contained in Westinghouse "Codes of Business Ethics & Conduct."  Ensure that all employees reporting to this position are informed about the standards and related policies and enforce them within this supervised activity
  • Interface with lead management team in the development, implementation and maintenance of plant policy
  • Must implement change in accordance with the needs of the business and the strategic plans of the organization

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, scientific or appropriate business field
  • 5 years of management experience in a manufacturing environment

Skills and Competencies

  • Exceptional initiative, leadership by influence, and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of process improvement principles such as Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma and tools such as Visual Daily Management, Process Management, Continuous Flow, Kaizen, and Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving
  • Demonstrated operations management and lean manufacturing skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Exceptional communication skills including interpersonal, technical writing, and presentation skills.  Must be able to develop Microsoft PowerPoint presentations using visuals and graphics for audiences at all levels of the organization
  • Must interface effectively with customers and auditors
  • Strong data analytics skills including the ability to interrogate business, SCADA, and manufacturing execution systems for needed data and analyze using tools like Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams in a union environment
  • Ability to break down and simplify complex issues
  • Demonstrated history of driving improvements and measurable results in a production environment
  • Effective in the change management process
  • Ability to proactively identify, assess and mitigate risk in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Effective and timely decision making often with limited information and/or time
