Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in TESOL, ESL, or Applied Linguistics from a university in which English is the medium of instruction. A master’s degree in another relevant field may be considered if supplemented with a certificate in TESL/TEFL.

• Experience working with college-level emerging multilingual students

• Strong English written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities:

The English Language Center at Saint Louis University provides specialized English language support for SLU’s emerging multilingual students. The English Language Center’s professional consultants serve as communication coaches and cultural ambassadors who provide instructional feedback and targeted language support for international undergraduate and graduate students.

• Provide feedback on students’ written and oral presentation projects, which may include guidance on: Language, grammar, word choice, and sentence structure; Culturally grounded academic expectations; Academic integrity, format, and citations (APA & MLA)

• Help students develop oral skills through guided English conversation sessions

• Prepare and submit consultation session reports

• May be called upon to deliver 60-minute pre-designed language support workshops to up to 20 students. Topics include: Academic writing, summary-writing, synthesizing, and argumentation; APA Format ; Academic integrity; Oral presentation skills; English conversation

• Perform other duties as needed by the English Language Center

This is a part-time position on the St. Louis, MO, campus of Saint Louis University. Applicants are expected to be available to provide in-person consultations with graduate and undergraduate emerging multilingual students, typically held Monday through Friday between 9:00am and 5:00pm.
