Summary

The Transit Department is in an exciting phase of renewal and growth, and the Senior Project Coordinator will play a critical role in assisting with numerous upcoming projects.  These include a complex joint development project with a private developer to build affordable housing alongside a major upgrade to our Uptown Transit Center, designing and building two new park & ride facilities, upgrading and relocating over forty bus shelters along Central Avenue, replacing the roof and HVAC equipment on an 80,000 sq. ft. bus maintenance facility, developing plans for rehabilitating an entire 7-acre operations and maintenance facility, and renovating an 80-year-old, Mission Revival-style historic railroad office building.  

The Senior Project Coordinator will work with other staff in the Planning Section to:

• Develop and manage specific project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules,
• Conduct the bidding and selection process for consultants and/or contractors,
• Direct consultants and contractors in designing and constructing projects, and
• Serve as the Department’s field representative for construction projects

Examples of duties

SSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

1. Assume management and supervisory responsibility for professional and technical architectural or landscape architectural services and activities, construction management, capital project fiscal planning, project planning, design, plan check, inspection, project budgets and scheduling for multiple capital projects.
2. Plan, direct, coordinate, assign, review and evaluate the work activities, products, methods and procedures of staff and consultants responsible for performing a wide variety of multiple professional and technical renovation and new development of capital projects.
3. Recommend design consultants, negotiate contract agreements, review and approve design and construction documents and pay requests for consultants and contractors.
4. Represent the Division/Department/City at public meetings and City Council before boards and commissions and to other divisions, departments and agencies for assigned projects.
5. Participate in identifying and resolving conflict and project related problems with solutions that result in resource savings (time, money, staff).
6. Serve as a liaison for the Division/Department/City with other City departments, divisions, the public and outside agencies; coordinate, negotiate, resolve sensitive and controversial issues.
7. Develop project status reports and construction schedules; estimate project construction costs and develop budget sheets.
8. Respond and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquires and complaints related to assigned projects.
9. Serve as project manager for assigned capital projects.
10. Participate in inspection services for assigned capital (CIP) projects.
11. Review and make recommendations on development plans, construction plans or architectural designs and specifications.
