Job Description Summary:

The Research Associate will use epigenomic, genomic, proteomic, and biochemical techniques, as well as physiological and imaging measurements both in vitro and in vivo in the Cortese Lab in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. The lab studies how epigenetics influences lung disease, focusing on how Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) drives vascular aging and dysfunction.

Job Description:

Job Duties

  • Perform laboratory protocols and procedures, including cell culturing, DNA and RNA isolation from cells, tissues, and bodily fluids, as well as endpoint and real-time PCR.

  • Conduct experiments independently and collaboratively using pre-clinical animal models to study sleep apnea and cardiovascular dysfunction.

  • Perform histological analyses, including immunochemistry, in-situ hybridization, and image acquisition using light, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy.

  • Conduct experiments, analyze and organize data, maintain accurate records, and present findings.

  • Independently design new experimental plans in consultation with the supervisor.

  • Manage lab operations, including ordering supplies, tracking invoices, and maintaining inventory.

Required Qualifications

Education: Master's Degree with an emphasis in biological science, or a related discipline.

Work Experience:

  • Experience in cell culture, microscopy, and pre-clinical animal models.

  • Experience with biochemistry, pathogenesis, and imaging.

  • Evidence of prior publication record.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Proficiency with routine biochemical techniques, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, sterile cell culture, DNA, RNA, and protein-based assays.

  • Experience with BSL 2 pathogens.

  • Animal handling experience with expertise in echocardiography, catheterization, and myography.

  • Prior experience in cardia dysfunction, lung biology or any pulmonary disease models.Ā

  • Strong work ethic that includes attention to detail and documentation capabilities.

  • Ability to multi-task.
