Reporting to the Head of Information Access and Student Services, this position will be responsible for supervising student employees and facilities, at Duquesne Kline Law Library, primarily on Friday midday/early evening, Saturday mornings and afternoons, and Sunday afternoons and evenings.

Inventory

Coordinates ongoing shelve reading, scanning, corrections, and inventory routines.

Coordinates shelve straightening projects.

Participates in “missing books” projects.

Desk responsibilities:

Staffs and supervises the Circulation Desk, ensuring high-quality customer service when interacting with Duquesne Kline Law faculty, administration, staff, students, and all other library visitors.

Addresses patron complaints and infractions.

Circulates Duquesne Kline Law Library materials to patrons, including checking out/in, and other necessary routines in the FOLIO circulation system.

Monitors security situation, and reports any criminal, medical, or facilities emergencies to Campus Police.

Utilizes “LibCal” to monitor study room reservations.

Utilizes “Lib Answers” to field virtual questions and requests.

Supervises student deskwork, filing, library patrols, noise control, faculty delivery, shelving, and other projects.

Monitors public patrons for library sign-in.

Helps maintain the Print Center, including stocking printers with paper, toner, and troubleshooting any minor equipment issues like paper jams. Ensures that other equipment like scanners, hole-punches, staplers, and other resources are functioning properly. Reports any problems to Head of Information Access and Student Services, as well as any necessary IT, or facilities contacts.

Maintains a weekly list of nonfunctional lighting throughout the Duquesne Kline Law Library, sends to the Head of Information Access & Student Services.

Trains student employees who work solely on the weekend.

Reports any Facilities and Technology Services problems to the appropriate on-call evening and weekend contacts.

Additional duties as assigned.

Information Assistance

Practices phone etiquette when answering the phone.

Provides library information to patrons asking about library hours, directions, collections locations, etc…

Assists patrons with using LOCATE, the online catalog.

Greeter

Greets patrons in a courteous and friendly manner.

Is available and prepared to assist patrons as they enter the Duquesne Kline Law Library.

Directional

Aids patrons in locating library materials.

Aids patrons in locating legal information through a variety of print and electronic mediums.

Referral

When appropriate, refers patrons to other libraries (Including the Allegheny County Law Library), University Offices, or off-campus agencies for information and/or services.

Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of service-sector experience or closely related activity, or satisfactory completion of relevant course work OR equivalent education/experience.

Demonstrated ability to handle high-stress and emergency situations.

Demonstrated excellent customer service orientation.

Ability to recognize and set priorities, and to use independent judgment and initiative in a variety of situations.

High level of detail orientation, with proven ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and interruptions.

Exceptional organizational skills.

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new programs.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends.

DESIRED:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent AND one year of demonstrated experience in a customer service environment, a library, or satisfactory completion of relevant coursework.

Supervisory experience.
