Job Summary
This position is posted for 1 opening, as either a Major Gifts Officer or Senior Major Gifts Officer, with final title and level depending on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.
This role serves as a key member of a dynamic, results-driven fundraising team, responsible for securing significant philanthropic support in partnership with alumni, parents, and friends to advance the College’s mission as one of the nation’s leading liberal arts institutions.
At the Senior Major Gifts Officer level, the role operates with a higher degree of autonomy and strategic leadership, leading the cultivation and solicitation of complex, high-impact philanthropic investments. This level is expected to manage more sophisticated donor relationships, develop advanced giving strategies, and contribute to the overall direction of major gifts fundraising efforts.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities for Major Gift Officer Level:
- Responsible for soliciting gifts from prospects capable of supporting Colorado College with gifts of $100,000 and higher. Work with potential charitable investors to help them align their philanthropic goals with opportunities at the College.
- Develop and manage a portfolio of relationships, generally regionally or city based. Cultivate, sustain, and grow relationships with the College’s strategically important alumni, parents, and friends.
- Recommend and assist with programming involving the President, Vice President for Advancement, other vice presidents, and volunteer leaders.
- Work collaboratively with volunteers, advancement staff, and other College representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for College-wide priorities.
- Promote an environment and relationships with internal and external constituents that reflects the Advancement Division values of trust, connection, compassion, gratitude, and strategic excellence.
- Perform within specific activity goals including visits, number of proposals delivered, and dollars raised, meeting expectations for a high-performing team.
- Collaborate with Annual Giving and Parent Giving Officers to create a short-term and long-term engagement strategy for the region.
- Prepare an annual portfolio plan in consultation with the Director of Major Gifts.
- Maintain relationships within academic departments and programs to regularly communicate key priorities back to development colleagues.
- Contribute to a dynamic, creative and energetic team environment.
Responsibilities for Senior Major Gifts Officer Level:
- Responsible for soliciting gifts from prospects capable of supporting Colorado College with gifts of $100,000 and higher; work with potential charitable investors to help them align their philanthropic goals with opportunities at the College.
- Develop and manage a portfolio of relationships, generally regionally based; cultivate, sustain, and grow relationships with the College’s strategically important alumni, parents, and other constituents.
- Perform within specific activity goals including visits, number of proposals delivered, and dollars raised, meeting expectations for a high-performing team.
- Develop and implement an annual plan and individual prospect strategy that meets individual and team goals which outlines and prioritizes activities, events, and travel in support of overall division goals.
- Direct engagement, solicitation, and stewardship strategy for prospect pool, key campaign volunteers, and other essential constituents in the region.
- Manage, coordinate, and travel with the President and other College leadership as it relates to major gifts.
- Partner with the Prospect Research team to manage assignments, find new leads, and track activity.
