A Day in the Life

The Principal Medical Education Specialist will be primarily responsible for the creation and management of faculty training and proctor pipelines for new to market products and therapies primarily focused within soft tissue robotics while providing strategic and operational expertise for the planning and execution of Medical Education programming within the surgical education team.  The Principal Specialist will work closely with key influencers, faculty, societies, medical directors, and cross-functional, internal stakeholders to determine critical strategies and initiatives to deliver targeted medical education and training to support safety and efficacy, and business growth drivers.

This role will require 20-50% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

Location: Remote within the U.S. / Travel can be up to 50% at times

You Will:

  • Lead the facilitation of customized training and education programs for medical and academic professionals on diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to increase procedural, technology, and product adoption to improve patient outcomes

  • In collaboration with US commercial stakeholders participate in the development of Medtronic’s US education strategy and curriculum to achieve corporate and regional educational objectives driving value to customers and improving patient care

  • Participate in conventions, forums, symposia educational content and scientific education programming meetings for promoting product and procedural awareness.

  • Conduct/Facilitate physician led education and consulting, supporting establishment and maintenance of customer relations with clinicians and organizations.

  • Lead development of assigned US Med Ed specialty strategy for commercial launch.

  • Manage and support internal and external clinical advisors regarding clinical protocols and device investigations (clinical labs, registries, etc.) 

  • Develop educational faculty and proctor pipeline, developing healthcare professionals as faculty across assigned surgical specialties

  • Collaborate with internal resources and/or expert consultants to support business needs through educational programs and operations including budget maintenance, data tracking, documentation of goals, assessment, and modifications as appropriate.

  • Ensure compliance at all levels of Medical Education initiatives and interactions

  • Identify and develop academic training center partners while managing and executing Clinical Education Programs at partner and/or Medtronic Training Centers

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key clinical societies and thought leaders within the US market to best establish and promote guidelines for surgical education.

  • Monitor and track program effectiveness and remain accountable for results

Must Have:

  • Bachelors Degree and minimum 7 years of relevant experience or

  • Advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

  • Musts - robust understanding of current robotic surgery in the US market

Nice to Have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and significant experience with general surgical and robotic training including open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgical procedures.

  • Proven understanding of the medical device or pharmaceutical arena and healthcare system requirements

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, compliance standards, and ethical obligations.

  • Ability to assemble and lead teams effectively

  • Proven ability to establish working relationships with all levels of organization including Clinical, technical, marketing, and corporate partnership, in business, clinical, and/or academic settings
