About the role

Nature and Scope

This position is primarily responsible for performing microbiological quality control tests in a laboratory environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Plan daily workload to meet laboratory requirements.
  • Microbiological testing of raw materials, finished product, and components using aseptic technique.
  • Gram stain, microbial identification, LAL, environmental monitoring, growth promotion, microbial limits and water testing.
  • Logging, reading and recording samples and data per cGMP and applicable compliance requirements.
  • Perform media preparation and glassware preparation.
  • Operate autoclaves.
  • Communicate any discrepancies or deviations to management upon discovery.
  • Conducts chart readings daily and changing chart weekly and documents findings.
  • Ensure all work is performed and documented in accordance with existing company policies, procedures, Current Good Manufacturing Practices, health and safety requirements.
  • Determination of the appropriate specifications and methods used for testing.
  • Calibration, performance verification of small laboratory instruments.
  • Participate in projects identified for example data entry and filing/tracking boxes for outside storage facility.
  • Adhere to Good Laboratory Practice requirements, by strictly following SOP's.

 Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Academic or industry work experience in laboratory setting with focus on microbiology preferred.
  • Willing to learn Aseptic techniques and behavior.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Organization and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and Written).
  • Working knowledge of MS-Office software and PC Skills Required.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

 Physical Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Physically able to wear laboratory protective gowning and equipment, including but not limited to gowning, goggles, face shields, respirators, and protective gloves.  PPE and Respirators are essential for the health and safety of employees. 
  • Employees must maintain a clean-shaven appearance each working shift to wear tight-fitting respirators properly.
  • Specific vision requirements include 20/20 near vision (can be corrected with eyeglasses or contacts) and color vision.
  • Employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
