About the role

Lab Summary:

The Standards & Mobility Innovation (SMI) lab is committed to developing technologies that enable ubiquitous access to information and provide immersive multimedia experiences for mobility users.  Our research focuses on: -Wireless standards and technology including 5G/6G, Wi-Fi, FiRa/UWB, MPEG, AOM, CSA Matter, CSA ACWG, CCC, etc.-RF & fast prototyping of 5G and IEEE 802 wireless systems and/or use cases - Multimedia standards and technology including VR, HDR, All-IP delivery - IoT standards and Smart Home connectivity/sensing technology

Position Summary:

The Director, R&D Strategy position will lead and support critical R&D initiatives, develop strategic plan/roadmap, and lead discussions with key stakeholders to share our visions and plan for strengthening of leadership in communication industry.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate mid-to-long term strategy for next generation (Beyond 5G and 6G) wireless communication networks
  • Develop and review strategic plan/roadmap with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead and participate in strategic initiatives for discussions with internal and external stakeholders in wireless communication industry, by directly scoping, initiating, planning, leading, and executing strategy projects
  • Analyze competitive business and research performance and develop strategies and tactics to achieve and sustain R&D leadership
  • Develop mid-to-long term R&D Strategy (3–10 year time horizons) for next generation communication by working with internal stakeholders within Samsung
  • Develop and review strategic plan/roadmap with execution planning
  • Participate and lead discussions with partners in wireless communication industry, by directly scoping, initiating, planning, leading, and executing strategy projects
  • Provide insights related to the forecasted outlook of industry to determine the strategy and execution planning. Generate associated action recommendation.
  • Provide Executive Management with timely and insightful analysis on critical competitive threats, movements and strategies with implications and recommended action
  • Provide critical analytical support for decision-making involving cross-departmental and multi-functional areas

Required Skills:

  • MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineer or Computer Science or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 15+ years of proven industry experience in R&D leadership and strategy roles
  • Demonstrated strategic thinker who can turn strategic objectives into practical action
  • Ability to efficiently scope and execute concrete strategic initiatives
  • Background in corporate strategy, strategic planning, consulting, and/or business development
  • Past work experience in analytical role at top-tier vendors or operators in 4G/5G wireless industry

The base pay range for roles at this level is listed below, but may be higher or lower in other states due to geographic differentials in the labor market. Within the base pay range, individual rates depend on a number of factors—including the role’s function and location as well as the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, education and training. This is part of our comprehensive compensation package with annual bonus eligibility and generous benefits to help you live life well.Base Pay Range$144,100—$224,050 USD
