Conducts high quality research that requires expertise in a particular field (e.g., health economics, implementation science) for system-wide projects. Effective and experienced communicator, project manager, research collaborator, and key contact for multi-site studies. This position works very independently, collaborating with scientists and investigators to facilitate and drive high quality research and serves as resource and subject matter expert across Advocate Aurora Health, consulting on research design and methods, conducting and informing analyses, and translating results to scientists, investigators, clinical leaders and collaborators. Functions as a junior investigator in protocol development, planning and implementation; presenting at national conferences, and leading and supporting manuscript writing and publication. The role responsibilities include consultations with investigators, coordination of research study teams, complex data analysis and interpretation, and training/mentoring staff. Provides major contributions to research projects, as well as AARI and AAH committees, initiatives, high profile projects, grant submissions, presentations and publications.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manages and executes multiple, complex research studies to accomplish study objectives. Considers the strategic objectives of Advocate Aurora Health while developing and leading research activities and large projects. Collaborates with scientists, investigators and leaders to manage and coordinate the work of research associates, research analysts, and other study team members to ensure research objectives are met.
  • Provides expert scientific knowledge in a particular field (e.g., health economics, implementation science) across all phases of a research project, including protocol development, research design and methods, implementation and analysis plans, data management, and dissemination activities (presentations, publications).
  • Evaluates and maintains literature reviews to evaluate study feasibility and state of the science in a particular area(s). Communicates findings to scientists, research teams and collaborators.
  • Designs data dictionary and data collection plans; Manages data cleaning and data analysis. Independently manages large datasets and complex databases. Coordinates complex data requests with the research analytics team.
  • Directs or conducts advanced data analyses (aligned with discipline expertise) and assists with more complex analyses to support publication and presentation of scientific results.
  • For reporting research to clinical and leadership audiences, creates thoughtful and concise summaries and translates sophisticated research into understandable conclusions and recommendations.
  • Acts as key contact for assigned research collaborators, coordinating work associated with the project, managing data, implementation and other aspects to completion within the scope of the contract or grant. Participates in outreach activities to engage stakeholders and promote research.
  • Leads and contributes to meetings, conference calls, and workgroup calls to achieve study objectives and communicate study progress to investigators, study team, collaborators, and sponsors. Tracks research progress to completion to achieve study objectives on time within the scope of the contract or grant.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for methods and techniques in a particular field (e.g., health economics, implementation science) and serves as a system-wide resource and mentor for other team members; Leads educational sessions and mentors investigators, research teams, and others within the internal research community on research methods.
  • Contributes to and leads grant submissions and the dissemination of findings as a co-investigator or key contributor in writing proposals, abstracts, manuscripts and presentations.


Education Required:

  • PhD in Health Science or related field.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Expert in research methods associated with particular discipline / training.
  • Expert with statistical software (R, SAS, STATA, or SPSS).
  • Excellent in data management, cleaning, and analysis of large datasets.
  • Excellent experience in providing consultations with scientists and investigators
