Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector, Tactical Space Systems Division, seeks a qualified Staff Systems Engineer to lead the space vehicle (SV) onboarding efforts for the Phoenix program in the Space Security business unit.

This position will work on site daily in Chantilly, VA.

The Phoenix Onboarding Team is within the Phoenix System Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) IPT. The team focuses on the software integration with the ground segment to enable ground software integration and test prior to validation of the system to ensure readiness for system test activities and on orbit operations. This includes the integration of multiple heterogenous space vehicles from multiple space vehicle contractors into the Phoenix ground system. The lead will ensure collaboration by the team both within the Phoenix program, with the Phoenix customer, and with space vehicle contractor teams.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team that performs software integration activities for a ground-based, service-oriented architecture currently used to provide next generation space operations capability.

  • Help manage the Phoenix Onboarding Team from a technical and programmatic perspective to integrate external space vehicle technical data including command telemetry databases, flight software, and SV simulators with the Phoenix ground segment.

  • Must be able to balance equal parts technical competency, forward thinking ideas, and execution focus.

  • This position requires a functional understanding of ground system networking, private cloud deployments, data and messaging buses, software deployment, and hardware deployment.

  • This position utilizes abilities to interact in an organized and solutions-oriented manner, with external entities who are contributing elements of the integrated ground segment.

  • The role will include support for CAM activities like schedule updates, risk and opportunity management, team headcount forecast, and other CAM requests.

  • Manage work in Jira to enable close collaboration with the ground software development and integration team.

  • The work is managed and performed between unclassified and classified environments.

  • The ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic fast-paced environment is essential.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance at time of application

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field with at least 12 years of applicable experience or Master's degree with 10 years of applicable experience

  • Experience in Space to Ground and Mission Architecture and Space Vehicle Systems Engineering

  • Experience in managing a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Satellite Ground Systems in the US National Security arena

  • CONOPS development for Space Based programs.

  • Knowledge of various mission analysis techniques and software tools.

  • Understanding of Agile software development practices.

  • Background working software systems engineering.

  • On-orbit testing of space systems and testing of integrated ground systems.

Salary Range: $171,000.00 - $256,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
