Senior Environmental Health and Safety Professional (Part-time/ As needed)

Stantec is seeking a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Professional to support oil and gas, power, construction, utility, and other industrial clients. This role is intended to operate as an Individual Contributor, serving as a senior technical resource and trusted advisor for complex environmental, health, and safety challenges.
The position includes leading and performing complex safety observations, risk assessments, field evaluations, compliance reviews, investigations, management system evaluations, hazard identification, control verification, training support, and development of practical client recommendations. The successful candidate will apply advanced technical knowledge and independent judgment to help clients meet regulatory requirements, strengthen safety management systems, improve operational risk controls, and sustain effective EHS programs
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a senior technical resource for complex EHS, operational risk, and compliance challenges requiring specialized expertise and independent judgment.
- Lead and perform complex environmental, health, and safety assessments, compliance reviews, management system evaluations, operational risk assessments, and assurance activities for clients across multiple industries.
- Evaluate client EHS programs, governance structures, procedures, critical risk controls, and field implementation practices to identify gaps, strengths, and improvement opportunities.
- Develop practical recommendations, corrective actions, and implementation roadmaps that support regulatory compliance, risk reduction, management system effectiveness, and sustainable client outcomes.
- Advise client leadership and project stakeholders on EHS strategy, safety management system effectiveness, contractor safety, serious injury and fatality prevention, compliance assurance, and operational risk management.
- Perform safety observations of contractors, project managers, and field personnel to support contractor onboarding, EHS observation programs, human performance coaching, risk recognition, and verification of field controls.
- Review and interpret applicable Stantec and client safety requirements, federal and state OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, industry standards, and client-specific procedures.
- Support the development, refinement, and communication of EHS compliance programs, procedures, governance tools, and management system elements.
- Prepare high-quality reports, findings, recommendations, dashboards, and deliverables for clients and project teams.
- Manage technically complex assignments with multiple stakeholders, sites, regulatory requirements, or operational environments while maintaining accountability for quality, schedule, budget, and deliverable expectations.
- Coordinate directly with project managers, EHS team members, client representatives, and client leadership to meet task, budget, quality, and delivery requirements.
- Provide technical review of EHS deliverables, assessment findings, investigation summaries, and client recommendations to support consistency, quality, and alignment with applicable requirements and recognized practices.
- Support investigations, incident reviews, root cause evaluations, and development of corrective and preventive actions for significant EHS events or high-risk conditions.
- Travel as required to conduct safety assessments, investigations, on-site EHS support, field observations, client meetings, and regulatory agency meetings.
- Work independently or with support to oversee delivery of assigned EHS tasks and client deliverables.
- Maintain direct client interaction and accountability for assigned work, including managing multiple client priorities and ensuring Stantec deliverables meet expectations.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
• Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental, health and safety consulting, operational risk management, construction safety, contractor safety, industrial hygiene, compliance assurance, or related disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate complex EHS issues, interpret technical and regulatory information, develop practical solutions, and communicate recommendations to clients and project stakeholders.
• Recognized expertise in one or more specialized EHS areas such as safety management systems, ISO 45001, contractor safety, construction safety, serious injury and fatality prevention, human and organizational performance, compliance assurance, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, or operational risk management.
