The McDowell Cancer Center provides comprehensive, compassionate care for patients and their families facing a cancer diagnosis. Our highly trained oncology and hematology specialists, working within a multidisciplinary team, deliver personalized treatment plans that focus on the whole patient—offering both inpatient and outpatient care from diagnosis through survivorship. With access to innovative therapies and advanced surgical procedures, patients benefit from leading-edge cancer care close to home, supported by experts dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes. .As a Medical Assistant for Hematology/Oncology, you will collaborate with fellow staff to create a welcoming, supportive environment for patients, families and visitors while monitoring patient conditions and providing essential support to oncology specialists. You will assist with medication management, patient monitoring, administrative tasks and more. All your work helps ensure the best possible health outcomes.

Additionally, you will receive ample opportunities to enhance your skills, gain hands-on experience and explore advanced positions at Cleveland Clinic. This position can be a stepping-stone for future opportunities within other units or departments in the hospital.

A caregiver in this role works days from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Assist with performing screenings and treatments by gathering and updating information related to health maintenance, identifying medication changes, updating allergy information, collecting specimens, performing tests, and documenting patient care. 

  • Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition. 

  • Maintain equipment, medical supplies and examination areas. 

  • Assist in pre-visit planning by updating the health maintenance tab.

  • Perform administrative/clerical duties, such as filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an approved Medical Assisting Program

  • Military training as a hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) considered

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within new hire period

  • Completion of a clinical externship OR extensive clinical experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • MA Certification

  • Successful completion of a Cleveland Clinic Externship

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.

  • May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.

  • Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.
