Grocery Department Team Leader

Position Summary: The Grocery Team Leader is responsible for modeling Earth Fares Mission, Conviction and Purpose, while training and developing a successful team within the Grocery, Frozen Food, Dairy and Bulk Departments. Overall responsibilities include adhering to the departments Standard Operating Procedures; meeting and exceeding financial goals including gross profit, shrink, sales, labor and department over-head. This person is responsible for ensuring a clean, organized, and safe work environment. The Grocery Team Leader also acts as a key holder to support overall store operations. This position requires one to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Essential Functions

1. Training & Development: Communicates the Earth Fare vision, standard operating procedures, merchandising guidelines, and financial goals to Team Members, with strong emphasis on customer service, safety and sanitation. Interviews, selects, trains, and supports Team Members with the goal of developing new leaders in the Grocery, Frozen Food, Dairy and Bulk Departments. Maintains a positive and professional work environment. Clearly defines and communicates expectations to Team Members. Continue to take the initiative to perfect craft through individual training and development.
2. Operational Tasks: Ordering and receiving deliveries; scheduling; checking daily and weekly sales/movement reports, shrink reports, emails and responding accordingly; conducting quarterly department inventory. Continually find ways to reduce expenses.
3. Merchandising: Develops and maintains an attractive sales floor by implementing Earth Fare merchandising guidelines.
4. Department Conditions: Maintains cleanliness, sanitation, and overall organization of the department including all fixtures, storage, work stations, freezers, and coolers.

Knowledge and Essential Critical Skills/Expertise

1. Strong communication skills with the ability to train, coach in the moment, and lead people in a positive and professional manner.
2. Strong organization, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
3. Knowledge of natural and organic industry trends, as well as common allergies and specialized dietary terms such as gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, etc.
4. Understanding of food safety, sanitation and proper storage/display of organic products.
5. Willingness to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Outlook. Ability to learn and use a Falcon hand-held computer scanner.

Experience

1. Proven success managing shrink, sales, gross-profit and total overhead of a department in a similar environment required.
2. Preferred 3-5 years minimum experience in grocery retail, preferably center store.
3. Must have a minimum of 2 years professional experience.
