About the role
A position for a Postdoctoral Research Associate is open in a federally funded research laboratory in The Department of Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The laboratory specializes in translational investigations of diseased calf muscle in patients with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), making use of high-quality biopsy specimens. We evaluate pathological changes in reference to normal organ structure and function that have been characterized by basic studies. The overall objective is to develop and test hypotheses for the mechanism(s) of pathogenesis of calf muscle and consequent lower-limb dysfunction seen in these patients, and to identify potential targets for therapy. We make use of high-quality biopsies of normal and diseased human muscle to study pathological changes in abundance, structure, and function of molecular, subcellular, and cellular subsystems including myofibers, intercellular connective tissue, microvessels, intracellular molecular networks, and molecular messengers. This is accomplished by robust quantification of these subsystems by Quantitative Fluorescence Microscopy, PCR analysis, gel electrophoresis, Western blot analysis, polarography, enzyme assay, and Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay. The individual will be able to implement the quantitative analytical methods listed and efficiently develop skills for implementing laboratory variations of these methods. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience. Applications are now being accepted online at
