We are looking for a senior leader with the experience, vision and passion to set direction and provide strategic focus across our future flood risk investment.
You will be at the forefront of managing the design and development of the Environment Agency’s pipeline of flood and coastal risk management projects and programmes. Your role will involve working closely with government to inform the Environment Agency’s future investment programmes. You will play a crucial part in shaping flood and coastal policy, providing project appraisal guidance and standardising business processes for flood and coastal projects. You will also be accountable for developing performance metrics and long-term investment scenarios for guiding future policy decisions.
This role is integral to the leadership team, reporting directly to the Director for Strategy and Adaptation. You will help set the overall strategy, vision, and culture for the business, ensuring effective management of flood and coastal risks to protect people, property, and the environment.
Your responsibilities will include interfacing with government departments and other public bodies on policy matters relating to flooding, coastal change and climate adaptation. You will lead and manage relationships and partnerships with a wide range of external stakeholders enhancing the Environment Agency’s reputation.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during incidents. Full training will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team   You’ll be working within the Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Directorate reporting to our Director of Strategy and Adaptation.

You will be responsible for a team of circa 30-40 staff and will have at least three direct reports. You will also contribute to the leadership of the FCRM and the Strategy and Adaptation department as a whole. Experience/skills required   You’ll be experienced in:
• leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams
• evaluating risks and potential mitigation options
• leading and influencing government policy and working with national stakeholders
