The Chief Wholesale Credit Officer (CWCO) is an executive position reporting to the Chief Credit Officer (CCO) within Truist's risk management organization. This role is responsible for managing credit policy, portfolio management, loss forecasting, and overall credit processes for Truist's Wholesale Credit Portfolio. The position oversees approximately $181 billion in outstandings and $330 billion in total commitments across Corporate Investment Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Commercial Banking, and Wealth divisions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership:

  • Lead the Wholesale Credit Risk Program in collaboration with business units, providing independent credit decisioning, risk challenge, and oversight.
  • Drive prudent growth within Truist's Credit Risk Appetite framework.
  • Develop comprehensive credit strategies tailored to meet regulatory frameworks of leveraged lending, structured products (including securitizations and asset-based lending) and other complex credit solutions.
  • Provide strategic direction for wholesale credit management, balancing quality, growth, and profitability objectives.
  • Guide the integration of risk and portfolio management best practices across product lines.

Credit Risk Management:

  • Establish and maintain credit policies, procedures, processes, and standards.
  • Develop strategies for managing credit concentrations for complex underwriting activities, including large, syndicated loan structures, leveraged finance, and structured credit products.
  • Oversee independent credit adjudication processes using quantitative models and judgmental decision-making.
  • Manage wholesale credit portfolio performance and concentration limits.
  • Lead the evaluation of new products and portfolio risks.
  • Provide oversight of CCAR overlays, CECL, ACL updates, and credit loss forecasting.

Governance and Oversight:

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert on various credit committees.
  • Establish and monitor risk appetite KRIs and thresholds for complex underwriting and structured finance credit activities.
  • Participate in stress testing processes and capital adequacy assessments.
  • Own and oversee issues management, prioritizing collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to design optimal solutions for Truist shareholders ensuring timely resolution, adherence to regulatory standards and effective remediation strategies.
  • Oversee First Line of Defense's risk management activities.
  • Establish cutoff score acceptance criteria for statistical models.
  • Monitor and assess current and emerging risk.

Regulatory and Compliance:

  • Act as primary contact for regulatory agencies, Credit Risk Review, and Internal Audit.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory credit policies.
  • Lead regulatory examination responses and remediation activities.
  • Participate in key committees including ALLL, Credit Risk Program, and Enterprise
