The Manager of Development Finance will play an integral role on the Universal Studio Group (USG) Finance team and will support all aspects of television development. The individual will partner with Studio Creative Teams, Business Affairs and Studio Finance with exposure to executive finance & leadership while helping manage all operational aspects of studio development including talent deals, projects, scripts and a variety of other high visibility projects. This role will oversee two payroll team members and will report to the Director of Development for USG.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist in all financial aspects of the different types of development projects, primarily focusing on talent deals, scripts, projects, recoupments across both scripted and unscripted television.
- Monitor and control expenditures to ensure that development costs are within budget.
- Create and maintain financial models to assess the potential financial performance of term deals, projects, scripts, recoupments across both scripted and unscripted television.
- Help serve as a liaison between business affairs and studio creative development team to ensure development financial models are accurate
- Maintain and model development term deal forecast to determine appropriate write-offs and recoupments with television production finance, ensuring controllership and compliance with GAAP.
- Responsible for all aspects of the financial close and forecast cycles including month & quarter end close, estimates and annual budgets working closely with studio controllership & FP&A to ensure timely and accurate submissions with clear & concise variances and risks & opportunities. Includes the monthly & quarterly close process, including preparation, and review of inter-company transfers, write-offs and production allocations in multiple financial systems (i.e. SAP).
- Includes managing various operational tasks across multiple systems to ultimately help provide support to the development team
- Help assist and manage all development ad hoc requests
- Coach, develop, and train payroll team and be a meaningful contributor to the USG finance team.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- BS/BA degree with accounting/finance focus preferred
- Minimum 4+ years public and/or private accounting, or FP&A experience preferred
- Strong written & verbal communication and presentation skills
- Accounting / GAAP knowledge
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience managing television development is a plus
- Team Player with ability to function in a cross functional environment and willingness to jump into projects to meet department goals
- Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and problem solve
- Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects and work independently
