About the role

Overview

The WebAIM team specializes in developing and enhancing tools and websites so they will be more accessible to people with disabilities. As a Software Engineer at WebAIM, you will develop and enhance the WAVE web accessibility evaluation tool (http://wave.webaim.org/) and provide web programming for a variety of WebAIM's projects and clients.

This is a full-time remote or on-site position at Utah State University. It includes an excellent benefits package (PDF), including health/dental/vision insurance, retirement package, and 12 paid holidays and 22 paid vacation days annually. Applicants must be able to legally work in the US and if offered the position must pass a background check. The anticipated salary pay range for this "Programmer/Analyst III" position is $65,000 - $85,000 (plus benefits), based on qualifications and experience.

 

This position is telework-eligible within the state of Utah. Telework outside of the state of Utah is subject to review and approval by the University prior to a job offer being extended.

WebAIM (Web Accessibility In Mind) is a small, yet reputable, non-profit web accessibility consultancy at the Institute for Disability Research, Policy & Practice at Utah State University. We are a leading provider of web accessibility services, tools, and training, and have been working in the web accessibility field since 1999.

Responsibilities

  • Provide programming expertise to further development of WAVE
  • Develop and refine various online tools and systems to support WebAIM's mission of improving the accessibility of the web
  • Administer databases, data analytics, and data reports
  • Help administer WebAIM websites, resources, and tools
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related field plus 4 Years of experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrable experience programming web applications using JavaScript (required), PHP (preferred), and related technologies, such as React, Node.js, etc.
  • Knowledge of web technologies: HTML, JavaScript, CSS, etc.
  • Knowledge of SQL and relational databases (preferably MySQL).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, proactive, and motivated.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fanatical about writing clean, well-commented code.
  • Experience in object oriented programming and familiarity with coding best practices and design patterns.
  • Deep understanding of web standards, especially WCAG, and web accessibility
  • Familiarity with git
  • Web browser add-on/extension development
  • Web design, usability, HTML, and CSS
  • Experience building highly scalable web applications
  • Cloud-based server administration (especially AWS) and MySQL database administration
  • Team and project management
  • Web security experience
