Position Summary

Utilizing initiative and independent judgment, the Assistant General Manager/Director of Events assists the SVP - General Manager in planning, directing and managing the day-to-day operations of the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre located in Palm Springs, CA, including sales & marketing, finance, event services, operations, human resources, public safety, production, union related issues, and facility maintenance. Supervision is exercised over professional staff, who directs various sections in day-to-day operations. Responsibility further includes evaluation and development of recommendations to improve organizational administration, procedures, policies, and programs. Unusual problems and major changes in programs or policy are discussed with the SVP - General Manager.

 

This role will pay an annual salary of $110,000-$120,000 and is bonus eligible.

About the Venue

Our goal is to prepare this one-of-a-kind community facility for its “Next Act” by replacing or restoring most systems, installing new seats, sound, and lighting, adapting the structure to meet current ADA requirements, and providing the theatre with modern facilities needed to provide Palm Springs and the Valley with a venue accessible and affordable for everyone. Exciting new developments include: SAVE, RESTORE, REOPEN

When we began this project, our ‘slogan’ was “Help Save the Plaza Theatre” but now that the restoration is in progress, we’re focusing on the finish line, and are now saying “Help REOPEN the Plaza Theatre.”

The restoration project is well underway. Woodcliff Construction of Los Angeles has been working on comprehensive renovation of the historic building since March, 2024. The restoration work will take approximately one year to complete, allowing the Plaza Theatre to open in late 2025.

The Plaza Theatre will once again become a major economic driver for the City, generating millions in economic activity by bringing hundreds of visitors and locals per week to the downtown to see quality entertainment. The Foundation has partnered with Oak View Group to bring diverse high-quality programming.When restored, the Plaza Theatre will be the only place available for the entire community to come together and utilize it as an affordable community venue showcasing diverse programming for all people, local youth organizations, promoting multicultural programming in film, music, live theater, education, comedy, and entertainment for all.

Responsibilities

• Assist the SVP/General Manager in planning, directing and managing the day-to-day operations of the Theatre.
• Maintains active contact with the Client/Contract Administrator. Monitors OVG compliance with all provisions of the management contract.
• Actively promotes the use of the facility to maximize its utilization.
• Negotiates lease agreements as determined necessary and in the best interests of the facility.
• Negotiates contracts and agreements with event organizers, hosts, managers and agents.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the Client/Contract Administrator, tenants, government departments and agencies, entertainment/convention industry, community and civic organizations to encourage continual and regular use of the facility.
• Coordinates facility involvement with Convention, Local Sponsors and Visitors Bureau, as well as other appropriate destination marketing agencies.
• Directs front-of-house operations including pre-event planning as well as post show evaluation.
• Oversees part-time staffing and event related needs.
• Coordinates with the Plaza Theatre Foundation and it’s volunteers and programs that support the theatre.
• Assures the coordination, implementation and administration of specific plans and programs prescribed by corporate directives, to include: matters of training and development; quality assurance; energy efficiency; safety/emergency procedures, crowd control and crisis management procedures, or other areas as needed.
