About this opportunity:
The Staff Process Engineer will report to the Toledo Refinery Manager of Process Engineering. They will provide technical evaluations to improve safety, reliability, and business performance. They will also contribute to Engineering and Technical Service team priorities and assist in training other Unit Process Engineers.
What you’ll do:
The Staff Process Engineer is responsible for strengthening the technical expertise and influence of the process engineering team by exemplifying leadership in technical excellence. This entails making individual contributions and providing mentorship and coaching to the site Process Engineering Team. The role involves implementing standard methodologies, leading diverse teams in problem-solving and improving plant performance, supporting unit outages/Turnarounds, and contributing to overall refinery initiatives. The scope of work encompasses all process units at the refinery.
Advises leadership on technical, capability and strategic matters, leading to wise business decisions. Steers the development of solutions and new opportunities that make a significant contribution to Cenovus
Contributes to the success of the team, leading by example in terms of learning, sharing of ideas and building capability. Coaches and mentors throughout Cenovus to build distinctive capability in our staff, ensuring a healthy talent pipeline
Operates routinely across functional and business silos, and externally via extended networks, to access and use subject matter expertise
Experience in delivering complex engineering design solutions to achieve desired performance
Applies scientific rigor to evaluations despite business pressure and constraints; prioritizes and sets clear direction, and boundaries in delivery of results
Encourages collaboration across different fields; experienced in leading teams with diverse subject areas and offering advice to senior leaders
Lead Root Cause Investigations for Process Safety, Availability, Quality and other incidents. Develop, maintain and improve feedstock evaluation and import Quality Assurance processes
Support abnormal plant operations, start-up and shutdown
Support site Process Modeling standardization
Incorporate learning into operating envelope updates, procedures, monitoring programs, and future improvement projects / asset strategies
Collaborate with Cenovus central Downstream Technical Services teams, other Cenovus refinery and manufacturing sites, and industry groups/networks to adopt standard methodologies
Lead Cenovus CoP (Community of Practice) forums activities and industry technology forums, as needed
Ensure new technology options and industry developments are considered as part of strategy and project development
Who you are:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience required
Minimum 12 years’ experience working in refining or relevant industry required
Experience in multiple process units and a broad working knowledge of refinery unit operations. Breadth of experience including some commercial, project, turnaround or similar non-tech experience preferred
Experience with Catalyst systems and catalyst selection, FCC units, Waste Water Treatment Units preferred
