About the role

The Red Hat Public Sector Services team is looking for an enterprise-level engineer with a background in Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization (Virt) to join us as a Dedicated Operations Technical Account Manager (DO-TAM) in the United States. In this role, you will partner closely with a public sector customer to provide architectural guidance and implementation advice for the OpenShift Container Platform and OpenShift Virtualization suite of solutions. This is not a sales role. You'll be a dedicated customer engagement associate and a member of the Red Hat engineering and technical support teams. As a DO-TAM, you will provide a level of premium support that builds, maintains, and grows long-lasting customer loyalty by tailoring support for our customer's environments, facilitating collaboration with their other vendors, and advocating on their behalf.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the trusted technical advisor and primary escalation point for the customer’s OpenShift Virtualization deployment, operations, and roadmap.

  • Develop deep relationships with IT and business stakeholders to understand their priorities, constraints, and architecture goals.

  • Provide architectural guidance and design reviews for virtualized workloads running on OpenShift, including capacity planning, networking, storage, VM lifecycle, and hybrid cloud integrations.

  • Assist in planning and executing migrations from legacy hypervisors into OpenShift Virtualization.

  • Partner with the customer in rolling out upgrades, patches, and lifecycle management for the virtualization stack.

  • Monitor and audit the customer environment to identify risks, performance bottlenecks, and configuration drift; propose improvements or mitigations.

  • Triage, diagnose, and resolve escalated technical issues; coordinate with Red Hat Support, Engineering, and product development teams.

  • Create, update, and maintain customer engagement plans, runbooks, operational guides, and architecture documentation.

  • Deliver periodic executive- and operational-level reviews of performance, health, and risk to customer leadership.

  • Lead and deliver training sessions, workshops, and knowledge transfer on OpenShift and OpenShift Virtualization operations.

  • Provide hands-on support, debugging, and proof-of-concept work as needed — including interacting directly with virtual machines and OpenShift clusters.

  • Be available for after-hours incident response, on-call rotation, and emergency support.

  • Travel as required to customer sites and regional offices.

What You Will Bring

  • Prior experience in technical support, engineering, operations, or quality assurance roles.

  • Strong understanding of Linux, and supporting areas such as networking, storage, and security.

  • Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM, Hyper-V) and specifically with OpenShift Virtualization.

  • Deep familiarity with OpenShift architectures, APIs, operators, and cluster operations.

  • Ability to juggle multiple issues, priorities, and projects with excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong customer-facing skills: ability to grow relationships, foster trust, and communicate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Commitment to pursue relevant Red Hat certifications (e.g., RHCE, OpenShift Administration, OpenShift Virtualization).

  • Collaborative mindset, able to work across internal (Red Hat) and external (customer, integrators, partners) teams.

  • Quick learner, self-starter, and ability to adapt to evolving technologies and environments.

  • Strong time management and prioritization capabilities.

  • Ability to articulate how Red Hat’s virtualization and hybrid cloud product portfolio maps to the customer’s strategic use cases.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

The Following Will Be Considered a Plus

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related discipline (Computer Science, Engineering, etc.).

  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification.

  • Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration (EX280) and/or OpenShift
