Summary: Responsible for overseeing the Variable Operations Departments including new and used vehicle sales, finance and insurance, and Business Development Center (BDC). The General Sales Manager is responsible for operations, profitability, sales performance results, department supervision, and customer satisfaction in Variable Operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has direct supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Ensure successful achievement of all monthly sales & CSI objectives for the dealership, as outlined by the manufacturer and the Hendrick Pre-owned Performance Plan Objectives.
- Ensure successful achievement of Autoguard Tier 3 each month.
- Ensure MOC reputation achievement each month, per the Hendrick guidelines.
- Works to improve sales and operations.
- Works with upper management and Human Resources to make hiring and discipline decisions.
- Assists sales and finance team members with processing or completing sales.
- Oversees training and supervising of sales, finance, and BDC team employees.
- Develops product promotions to motivate sales, finance, and BDC team employees and managers.
- Oversees department inventory and pricing.
- Oversees departmental gross profit and related departmental expenses.
- Works to motivate sales, finance and BDC team employees and managers.
- Oversees reporting of sales to manufacturer(s).
- Has working knowledge of factory(s) incentive programs.
- Regularly attends required manager meetings and bucket meetings.
- Maintains effective employee relations.
- Maintains an organized, clean and safe work area
- Participates in required training
- Follows Safeguards rules and regulations.

- Complies with Company policies and procedures
- Observes all Federal, State, Local and Company safety rules and regulations in the performance of duties.

Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products. Advanced ability and knowledge of Dealership Management System and web based applications.
Communication Skills:
Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and company personnel.
Attendance Expectations:
The position requires regular and predictable attendance. Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and sit.
Environment Demands:
Duties are performed throughout the premises, both indoors and outdoors and on customer test drives. Due to the nature of the position, may be exposed to various work environments and required to perform a variety of tasks. Work includes frequent movement around the company facilities and the outdoor car lot to interact with customers and other departments.
Verbal and Writing Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
