Job Description Summary

Miami University’s John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship established the Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIR) program in 2018 as part of its continuing efforts to provide entrepreneurial mentorship and coaching to our students, faculty, staff, and alumni. This program is modeled after similar programs at the University of Chicago Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Harvard Business School Arthur Rock Center for Entrepreneurship, among others.

Job Description

The primary task of each EIR is to make themselves available to students, faculty, staff, and alumni in support of Miami Entrepreneurship. This can be accomplished through a combination of the following:

• Maintaining office hours 4-5 times per semester (Spring and Fall) for 3-4 hours either virtually or in person.
• Regularly participate in co-curricular programs such as Startup Weekend Miami, Social Innovation Weekend, RedHawk Venture Pitch Competition, Business Model Road Test Pitch Competition, the Venture Capital Immersion Program, RedHawk Launch Accelerator and the Altman Summer Scholar Internship Program.
• Participate as requested in Miami University entrepreneurship alumni events such as RedHawk50 On The Road, the RedHawk Founders & Funders Summit, StartupCincy Week, and other startup ecosystem events.
• Guest lecture as requested on relevant topics for entrepreneurship and related courses across campus.
• As requested, help faculty identify guest speakers for classes, co-curricular activities, and other related events leveraging their network to build liaisons between students, faculty, and staff with local, regional, and national entrepreneurial ecosystems.
• As requested, provide career coaching to current students and alumni interested in working for a startup in the entrepreneurial ecosystem or in having a career in venture investing.
• Offer support to at least one of the Miami Entrepreneurship clubs including RedHawk Ventures, Social Impact Fund, Side Hustle Club, and Advancing Women in Entrepreneurship.
• Participate in quarterly EIR meetups to provide input on the design of alumni programs, co-curricular programs, and courses.
• Be a visible representative of Miami Entrepreneurship in their professional network and in their social media posts/shares.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Miami University’s EIR program is by invitation-only, based on the following criteria:
Entrepreneurial experience with at least five years of experience as a startup founder or leader of a high growth company; or venture and/or private equity investing Professional investor with at least 5 years of experience as a professional with venture capital, private equity, investment banking, or similar experience that includes funding seed stage, early-stage, growth stage companies.gh; or professional role in the entrepreneurial ecosystem; other professional roles such as leader of an Entrepreneurial Support Organization (ESO) or professionals that support the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Consideration will be given to applicants with Industry and/or technology expertise; professional expertise in emerging markets, areas of increasing entrepreneurial activity, or where indicators suggest that there will be opportunities such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA).

A degree from Miami University is preferred but not required
