The anticipated salary range for this role is between $250,000.00 and $250,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
Overview/Scope
As the Executive Director and Team Leader in SMBC, Specialized Finance, Americas Division (SDAD) Agency Group, you will manage a team of Agency Officers in providing Agency Services (Administrative Agent, Collateral Agent, Account Bank) on a diverse portfolio of project finance/structured finance and real estate transactions including syndicated and bilateral loans, construction, value add, operating and stabilized properties, domestic and international cross-border financings, export credits, and transactions in workout, in the thermal power, renewable energy, infrastructure, energy transition, telecom and non-recourse real estate sectors. You will manage both domestic and international clients across the Americas. You will collaborate with internal/external stakeholders, to deliver an exceptional client experience.
Role Objectives: Delivery
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage a team of Agency Officers based in New York
- Supervise, coach, and train the team in performing Agency functions
- Maintain standard documentation requirements for SDAD agency transactions
- Oversee the team to ensure all conditions precedent are satisfied for loan draw downs, funds transfers, repayments/prepayments and equity distributions
- Review and approve disbursement requests, monitor draw procedures, manage flow of funds mechanics and internal loan administration
- Oversee the team to coordinate with SMBC Loan Operations to ensure drawdowns, rate rollovers, fund transfers and repayments/prepayments are processed efficiently, accurately and in accordance with the governing documentation
- Act as escalation point of contact for agency matters to the Borrowers, Sponsors, lender groups and internal stakeholders
- Produce and approve fee proposals for new agency transactions
- Work with the Borrower, legal counsel, and, where applicable, consultants (independent engineer, insurance advisor, other consultants) to structure and manage consent solicitation process (including but not limited to amendments, waivers, consents of financing documents).
- Manage all interactions between borrowers, lenders, independent engineers, legal counsels, and internal units
- Coordinate department data collection for Shared National Credit (SNC) reporting
- Ensure team is tracking reporting requirements, insurance and collateral renewals, and following up on late documents
- Manage the team that is responsible for maintaining the data distribution site (e.g. Intralinks, Debt Domain, etc.)

- Bachelor’s degree in business or finance or related fields
- 10+ years of relevant experience in Agency Services (Project Finance & Real Estate, preferred)
- Deep understanding of the associated legal documents and financial analysis
