About the role

As the Production Manager at one of our Alaska seafood processing facilities, you are responsible for overseeing all aspects of production, from raw material intake to finished product packaging. The Production Manager is responsible for optimizing production efficiency, ensuring product quality, and maintaining compliance with food safety regulations. Your key duties include managing production schedules, supervising production workers, and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in implementing and maintaining quality control measures, ensuring that the final product meets stringent industry standards.

 

Essential Functions/Qualifications

The responsibilities of the position include the following:

  • Participate in pre-season planning meetings, collaborating with leadership to establish production goals, resource allocation, and equipment maintenance schedules.
  • Develop and implement production schedules that factor in seasonal variations, anticipated catch volumes, customer demand and optimize resource utilization.
  • Lead a team of production line supervisors and personnel, ensuring adherence to established processing procedures, quality control measures, and HACCP principles.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production flow, minimize waste, and maximize yield.
  • Oversee quality control procedures to ensure product meets safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety regulations, such as HACCP, FDA, and USDA standards.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify and address any potential quality deviations.
  • Oversee the allocation of staff across processing lines, ensuring efficient staffing levels throughout the season.
  • Work closely with the maintenance department to prioritize equipment repairs and ensure peak operational readiness.
  • Regularly review the performance of your team members, providing constructive feedback, coaching, and mentorship to drive continuous improvement.
  • Identify training needs and champion the development of your team's skills and knowledge.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare and present production reports to leadership, clearly communicating key performance metrics and production outcomes.
  • Other duties are to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

  • Seafood Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of seafood processing techniques, quality standards, and industry regulations.

  • Equipment Knowledge: Familiarity with various seafood processing equipment and machinery.
  • Quality Control: Proficient knowledge in HACCP and SSOP; OSHA standards and regulations; Fair labor standards; Workmen’s comp principles and good manufacturing practices.
  • Safety Management: Strong commitment to safety and ability to implement safety measures and procedures.
  • Problem-Solving: Skill in identifying and resolving issues related to production, quality, or safety.
  • Inventory Management: Ability to manage inventory levels effectively to ensure product availability and minimize waste.

  • Communication: Effective communication skills to interact with team members, management, and customers. Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Education and Experience

  • BS/BA degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in seafood or food manufacturing management in positions of progressive responsibility.
  • Extensive experience working in various roles such as production, quality control, or management, is crucial.
