Overview of Position
The Lead Accountant performs reinsurance accounting duties to provide accurate and timely financial and client accounting and reporting to meet internal and external deadlines and achieve departmental goals.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
Prepare and process complex monthly and quarterly journal entries, financial reports and analysis. Prepare complex account reconciliations and perform follow up activities for pending items. Deep understanding of GAAP, Statutory and legal entity accounting.
Recommend process improvements and assist with project work as requested
Work closely with the direct accounting team to ensure reinsurance accounting is aligned and accurate
Work closely with the business to understand deal structures and client reporting requirements
Ability to review contracts and understand how terms of the contract equate to financial impacts and timelines for client reporting
Work with internal and external auditors on control test work and substantive testing
Maintenance of ongoing process/procedure documents and ability to cross train other team members
Ensure compliance with internal control policies in a SOX environment
Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential
What are the requirements needed for this position?
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
Minimum of 5 years prior experience in the financial accounting and reporting
Understanding of insurance and/or reinsurance accounting
Travel
Up to 5%
What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or MBA
Ability to work independently
Able to thrive in a fast pace environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Accuracy and attention to detail
Strong organizational skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, V-look ups, Power BI
Able to adapt to a flexible work environment
Pay Range:
$62,000.00 - $103,400.00Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
