Hatch is seeking a Hydropower Specialist - CAD/Revit Designer to join our Hydropower and Dams Business Unit located in our Minneapolis, MN office.   

 

The Designer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects in the United States and globally. Responsible for creating structures using 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with project requirements under the supervision of the Lead Engineer. Apply specialized and/or advanced engineering principles at conceptual and detailed level. Participate in a wide range of projects covering civil structures design including bridges, retaining walls, dams, culvert structures, liquid retaining structures, pump stations. Activities include site investigation, steel and concrete modeling of civil structures for both front end planning and the detailed engineering phase for multi-discipline projects. While most of the projects will be focused on the USA, the candidate will work with the global team to deliver projects across the globe.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lead Civil Structures Engineer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule
  • Develop, with the assistance of others, the man hour budgets required to perform all civil structures design drawings and modeling work based on required deliverables and time based functions
  • Coordinate the work of civil structures designers and draftspersons in the preparation of 3D models, contract drawings, record keeping and other statistical work
  • Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software as required
  • Provide and/or coordinate training for resources assigned to the project
  • Facilitate the sharing of technical expertise both across projects and other Hatch offices
  • Perform conceptual layout work
  • Develop design details
  • Check drawings prior to release
  • Ensure coordination with designers and engineers within the discipline and with other disciplines
  • Coordinate and review clash detection of models with other discipline models
  • Participation in formal engineering review processes
  • Support of site engineering team to provide technical solutions and timely response to technical queries
  • Verify onsite condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities
  • Construction supervision dependent upon project demands
  • Incorporate safety in design.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Engineering Design and Drafting;
  • 2 – 8+ years of drafting experience in a similar role;
  • Experience within a large project, multi-disciplinary EPCM environment
  • Proficient in the use of 2D and 3D structural designer software packages such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D and REVIT
  • Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project
  • Understanding of other discipline requirements
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good safety awareness.
