Job Description
As a Geotechnical Soils Technician, you’ll be part of a field-focused team that helps ensure construction projects are built safely, correctly, and to specification. Your work directly supports infrastructure projects such as roads, transportation systems, and site development that communities depend on every day.
In this role, you’ll spend most of your time in the field performing soil and materials testing, observing construction activities, and documenting conditions. You’ll work closely with engineers and project teams to collect accurate data, identify potential issues early, and support decisions that impact project quality and safety.
Join a dynamic, value-driven, client- and community-focused environment where your work creates a lasting positive impact for the people and communities we serve.
Core Responsibilities
-
Conduct geotechnical field testing (e.g., soil compaction, material sampling, moisture-density testing) to verify construction meets project specifications
-
Observe site conditions and construction activities, identifying inconsistencies or potential risks and communicating them to engineers or supervisors
-
Prepare detailed, accurate field reports documenting testing results, site conditions, and daily progress
-
Support geotechnical engineers with field investigations, including data collection, layout support, and basic measurements/calculations (volume, area)
-
Maintain and operate field equipment and testing tools, ensuring proper use and care in line with company standards
-
Follow all safety protocols, including JSA and HASP requirements, and take personal ownership of maintaining a safe work environment for yourself and others
You’ll thrive here if you have
-
2+ years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical field work, or a related field role where you’ve worked outdoors and in active job sites
-
A high school diploma or GED (associate's degree or technical training is helpful but not required)
-
The ability to work independently in the field while staying organized, managing your time, and following project requirements
-
Strong attention to detail when collecting data, documenting results, and following testing procedures
-
A proactive mindset—you ask questions, speak up about issues, and take initiative to solve problems in the field
-
Comfort with physically active work, including standing for extended periods, lifting equipment (20+ lbs), and working in varying weather conditions
-
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record for traveling to job sites
-
Exposure to or certification with field testing equipment (such as nuclear gauge) is a plus but not required
