Video Production Assistant

Overview

University Marketing & Communications is looking for a motivated and dependable student worker who will assist in creating, editing, and delivering engaging video content. We are looking for a videographer who has video production experience, is attentive to detail, and is open to feedback and collaboration.

This position would report to our Digital Journalist and work amongst the Strategic Communications team to help enhance the visual storytelling ability of the university.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Digital Journalist in video production tasks – operating DSLR cameras, setting up lighting, and ensuring audio capture
• Assist in the post-production workflow – intaking and processing of footage, color correction, and video editing
• Perform other tasks on behalf of the Digital Journalist and UMAC team which may include file management, project archival, script writing, and gear management
• Will be expected to, at times, work both independently and collaboratively within the UMAC team, as well as with other university communicators, entities, and clients
• Will be expected to communicate effectively – both written and verbally – and is expected to meet assigned deadlines
• Will be expected to be detail-oriented and open to feedback and coaching

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic understanding of foundational skills related to shooting video –composition, exposure, white balance, etc.
• Ability to complete tasks and work on deadline without direct supervision
• Daytime availability is a must, with occasional evening and weekend requirements as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Current USU student
• 1-2+ years of video production experience – including lighting, audio capture, and filming
• 1-2+ years of editing experience – Final Cut Pro X experience preferred
• Basic understanding and comfortability with Adobe Suite Products, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects

Advertised Salary

$15 per hour

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.  The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
