Job Description
Nevada Robotics at DRI is hiring part-time college student workers to support educator professional development and STEM education outreach events. Positions - called ROCs (Robotics Outreach Crew) - are located in Reno, NV and may include tasks such as preparing for and working at teacher training workshops, robotics and drone competitions, and STEM school and community outreach events. These hourly student positions will also help support the Robot – Drone –Book Lending Library program by inventorying and setting up robots and drones, and counting, sorting, stickering, and packing books. The positions may include other duties as assigned based on programmatic needs and students’ interests.
ROCs work a flexible but consistent semester schedule Monday – Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. doing office work and/or at various times during the evenings and weekends for training, events and competitions. Students will be expected to work 10-15 hours per week and must be available to work some evenings and on Saturdays. ROCs work on site at DRI's Reno campus and at various locations around the community.
This position is open to current NSHE students only. This position may be ideal for education, computer science, or engineering majors, or those students who are interested in learning more about higher education or non-profit organizations. No robotics or drone experience is necessary. Nevada Robotics staff will provide paid training and support for new ROCs. Employment will end upon graduation or loss of student status.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Currently enrolled student at an NSHE institution
Curious, life-long learners with a growth mindset
Interest in one or more of the following: education, community outreach, STEM, robotics, and drones
Self-starters who want to support STEM education and Nevada’s teachers and families
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (including Teams and Outlook) and Google Suite programs
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with drones and or robotics education / competitions
Physical Requirements: This position may need to occasionally perform physical tasks such as lifting objects of 20-60 lbs., stooping, bending, and kneeling and standing for long periods of time.
Conditions of Employment: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Reliable transportation is required.
Compensation: $18/ hour DOE, up to 15 hours per week; no benefits
