JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Borrelli Institute for Real Estate Studies (BIRES) is seeking a detail-oriented student intern to support its social media, website, and communications efforts. This is a paid position requiring approximately 8-10 hours per week. The selected candidate will help manage the Institute’s social media calendar and create engaging content that highlights events, student spotlights, and faculty and alumni achievements.
- Develop creative content ideas and maintain a consistent social media calendar
- Create and publish engaging, on-brand content across platforms.
- Build engagement with prospective students, current students, and alumni while maintaining a clear and consistent voice.
- Monitor social media activity, respond to followers, and collaborate with content experts as needed.
- Research social media trends and best practices to enhance engagement.
- Work with students, faculty, and alumni to identify stories and content opportunities.
- Represent the Borrelli Institute at events by taking photos, gathering information, and capturing content; some off-site travel may be required.
- Schedule and post content manually or through Hootsuite.
- Track and evaluate content performance as needed.
- Strong understanding of current social media platforms, trends, and brand-focused communication.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Confidence in seeking out content opportunities and following up with students, faculty, and alumni.
- Creativity and experience developing social media content.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Canva.
- Experience with graphic design, video, photography, or audio.
- Ability to align content with Smeal and Penn State branding, goals, and values.
This internship is open to all students, with preference given to Smeal students. The paid position is available for summer 2026, if possible, and fall 2026, with the potential to continue into spring 2027.
