The Role: As a Transition & Vocational Coordinator, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with disabilities in their daily lives. You will work closely with and supervise a vocational team. The Transition & Vocational Coordinator will set up vocational schedules, student work experiences, and classroom jobs. You will impact the lives of the people Brightway Living & Learning supports by fostering their independence, promoting their well-being, and helping them connect with their communities. What You Bring to Brightway Living & Learning:
- Must possess a BA degree and/or NYS certification Psychology, Rehab Counseling, Special Education or a related field.
- Must demonstrate skill with Applied behavior Analysis (ABA).
- 2 years’ experience working with the I/DD population.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
What You'll Do:
- Supervise and provides direct support to the vocational assistants in setting up student vocational schedules, student work experiences, documentation of vocational experiences, Level I assessments, designing and implementing classroom jobs, etc.
- Coordinate vocational and transition documentation and participate as needed in meetings related to students receiving transition or vocational services (i.e. quarterly review meetings, parent meetings, staffing or team meetings, transportation issues, Admission/Discharge, Statement of Transitional Services, collaboration with Adult Services, and Brightway Living & Learning Vocational Dept, etc.).
- Coordinate certain special events and responsibilities as needed for the building or program as a whole (i.e., bus drills, bus duty, bus staff training, special events, special student activities, staff appreciation events, graduation, field trips, emergency and kitchen supplies and petty cash, assists Unit Managers if needed, etc.).
- Instruct staff by demonstration, in leading staff training in services or teacher/therapist meetings, during conference day presentations, special meetings, bus staff training, etc.
- In collaboration with Transportation Services, coordinate the School Age Program’s day-to-day bus, driver and phone assignments to ensure students participate in their scheduled activities, and all guidelines for trip, bus, driving and staffing safety are met.
- Understand, apply and enforce all agency and program policies and procedures.
- Communicate all significant information to the Assistant Director or Director, seek assistance when needed, and prevent minor issues from escalating.
- Contribute positively and actively to the positive climate in the building, to the motivation and morale of the individuals supervised, and to developing and empowering staff.
- Work with the School Age Program’s Business Operations Manager on all Student Enterprise programs.
- Work with ACCESS-VR services on behalf of the students in the School Age Program.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Must Be Able to Do:
- Modify the area to secure the safety of the adults i.e. move/push tables and other heavy objects up to 20 lbs.
- Lift/move/carry up to 20 lbs.
- Run after an individual up to 500 feet
- Run to a program in need up to 500 feet
- Kneel, twist, and bend
- Respond to fire alarms
- Perform all physical SCIP techniques
