Senior Director, Research & Technology Search & Evaluation (m/f/x), Global Business Development

 

The Position:

Daiichi Sankyo is seeking a Senior Director to lead our research and technology-focused search & evaluation efforts in Europe. This position is responsible for managing a broad range of external activities related to identifying and evaluating potential in-licensing, co-development and other opportunities including academic and industrial R&D collaborations, external technology relationships, and mergers and acquisitions, primarily in the area of discovery, development and research technologies for programs in all therapeutic areas.  This position independently scouts, identifies, and evaluates these types of opportunities and advances to key stakeholders those that have a reasonable probability of success and that align with DS objectives.

 

The position requires strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, commitment and passion for the relevant scientific and clinical disciplines, and the ability to acquire a deep understanding of relevant information and how it impacts DS’s innovation priorities. This position requires keen business acumen and a nuanced understanding of the dynamic and collaborative process of turning scientific discoveries into therapies that meaningfully improve the lives of patients. The position understands emerging trends in cutting-edge scientific research and drug development. Critically, this position requires an ability to build a strong hypothesis for how an opportunity addresses DS’s priorities and aligns with the DS mission, distill key takeaways and resulting implications from materials, and communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in written form (including presentations) and orally.  This role will require a person who actively seeks strong collaboration with other team members and all relevant departments. This person must be process-oriented and committed to ensuring that opportunities are advanced in an effective and efficient manner.  


Key responsibilities:

  • Develop close working relationships with stakeholders across Daiichi Sankyo, especially within the research organization, to understand their external partnering needs and to build communication channels that leverage the total organizational knowledge of relevant technologies

  • Proactively scout for collaboration, in-licensing, co-development and sponsored research opportunities. Coordinate feedback on opportunities from relevant internal constituencies. Triage inbound opportunities, collect feedback, and respond courteously in a timely fashion with detailed feedback.

  • Provide expertise in scientific assessment, evaluation, and feasibility for external opportunities with relevant internal stakeholders. Act as the primary point of contact with the external partner for scientific matters. Support the evaluation and feasibility analysis. Ensure opportunities are updated in licensing databases and status reports.

  • Work with key internal partners and cross-functional teams to ensure effective communication and efficient decision-making and to support the completion of transactions in a timely manner. Coordinate and oversee the diligence process for partnering opportunities to drive a detailed scientific and clinical evaluation and deliver recommendations to key governance bodies. Prepare documents for submission and presentation to management. Report on the status of key opportunities and seek approval for advancing projects. Collaborate with transactions team to support the negotiation
