Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD) staff couple the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, data science, Artificial Intelligence, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our Intelligence Community, DoD, and civilian customers.

The Cloud Platforms & Architectures Department (CPAD) is the center-of-excellence for cloud computing and cloud-related technologies within The Aerospace Corporation. CPAD’s overall goal is to stay at the forefront of cloud technology to enable our customers to effectively leverage this technology to fulfill their mission needs. CPAD’s Cloud Architecture & Strategy (CAS) team works with customers to help them deploy cloud systems that are well architected to meet their operational requirements and strategic goals. We are looking for an Engineering Manager (Engineering Manager – Cloud Computing Architecture) to lead this team of CAS Cloud Solution Architects to advise customers on how to properly architect, migrate, and evolve cloud systems.

This is a fulltime position based in Chantilly, VA, or El Segundo, CA which requires 100% onsite work. This role will also be considered for our Colorado Springs ,Co office depending on business needs. 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage the Cloud Architecture & Strategy Section within CPAD comprised of talented Cloud Solutions Architects. This team is responsible for advising customers on how to design, implement, and maintain cloud architectures and strategies that are resilient, performant, efficient, secure, and cost effective.
    • Build a talented organization of Cloud Solutions Architects through recruiting, hiring, and on-boarding new staff
    • Develop staff through performance management, evaluation, coaching, and mentoring
    • Promote an innovative culture, maintain team morale, and monitor individual well-being and job satisfaction
    • Manage overall capabilities of the section, paying attention to health/status and adapting capabilities as customer needs evolve
    • Obtain, manage, and tailor cloud technology work assignments to staff skillsets
    • Ensure the technical quality of staff work products
    • Acquire necessary resources and make inter-organizational connections to enable staff to execute work efficiently
    • Interface with program office and government customers, other corporate support organizations, and other ETG departments
    • Collaborate with cloud department management and management in other departments (e.g., cybersecurity, data, AI)
    • Execute business administration functions (e.g., budget, resource allocation)
  • In addition to leadership and management functions, act as a technical leader and contributor:
    • Advise customers on best practices to design, implement, and maintain cloud architectures and strategies that are resilient, performant, efficient, secure, and cost effective
    • Research cutting edge cloud technologies and develop prototypes to demonstrate and benchmark their capabilities
    • Review customer cloud architectures and provide feedback on areas of improvement
    • Participate in deep technical discussions with government, contractors, and cloud vendors to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment in cloud
    • Perform Analysis of Alternatives (AoAs) on multiple cloud solutions to help government space customers make more informed decisions
    • Provide guidance on how to properly plan and execute cloud migrations

What You Need to be Successful – Engineering Manager – Cloud Computing Architecture

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field
  • At least 6 years of experience working with cloud systems and related technologies
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams, coordinating complex technical tasks among team members, and translating customer needs into viable instructions for engineers
