POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Accountant supports the daily operation of the Cash Management team and is responsible for daily application of cash receipts and timely deposit of checks for NYCEDC and affiliated entities. The role involves preparing and entering journal entries and preparing supporting schedules. The Accountant collaborates with other departments to ensure transactions are recorded correctly for financial reporting, audit purposes, as well as in response to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain comprehensive workpaper packages, prepare journal entries, and prepare account and bank reconciliations for cash accounts and tenant security deposits, effectively addressing any discrepancies
- Apply cash receipts for wires, checks, eBill, and lockbox deposits to appropriate tenant accounts
- Ensure timely deposits of checks for NYCEDC and affiliated entities
- Review and maintain tenant balances, including security deposits, in MRI and work closely with Billing and Lease Administration to ensure accuracy
- Prepare bank forms to open and/or close tenant sub-accounts
- Provide prompt responses to both internal and external inquiries, and resolve issues related to cash receipts and applications
- Assist with requests from internal and external auditors as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 1-2 years of experience in Accounting
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Experience with Microsoft Great Plains and MRI is a plus
- Strong foundational knowledge of US GAAP to ensure accounts are fairly recorded and reported
- Self-starter with strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated communication skills; communicating clearly, concisely, and professionally with internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain the highest level of professionalism by upholding ethical standards and confidentiality consistent with the role
- Must be a New York City resident within 180 days of hire
