Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Azure Automation Engineer to lead the buildout, enhancement, and modernization of our Azure infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation best practices. This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering role focused on scripting, platform-as-code implementation, and enabling scalable, automated environments in Azure.

Reporting into Engineering leadership, this role will be responsible for owning key automation initiatives, leading the migration from Azure DevOps to GitHub Enterprise, and ensuring the reliability and repeatability of infrastructure provisioning. You will work closely with platform engineering and application development teams to support workload migration and operational excellence.

What You’ll Do

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, enhance, and maintain Azure infrastructure using Terraform, Azure CDK, and other IaC tools

• Automate the provisioning, configuration, and deployment of Azure cloud resources

• Lead the migration from Azure DevOps to GitHub Enterprise, including CI/CD pipeline automation via GitHub Actions

• Collaborate with engineering and app teams to integrate automated infrastructure patterns into development workflows

• Ensure robust documentation and knowledge transfer of pipeline and automation logic to support team continuity

• Identify gaps in automation, implement improvements, and take full ownership of Azure automation initiatives

• Support workload migrations and modernization efforts across our Azure ecosystem

What You’ll Bring to Zelis

Required Technical Skills:

• Strong experience with Terraform for Azure resource provisioning (IaC)

• Proficiency with Azure Cloud Development Kit (CDK) and/or ARM Templates

• Hands-on experience with GitHub Enterprise and GitHub Actions for Azure automation workflows

• Deep knowledge of Azure services, including Azure DevOps, Azure Functions, Azure Resource Manager, and Azure CLI

• Proficiency in scripting with Python (required); PowerShell is a strong plus

• Familiarity with observability tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Experience with Ansible for configuration management

• Exposure to Bash scripting

• Familiarity with Azure Policy and governance automation frameworks

• Experience contributing to infrastructure standards or reusable modules

Experience Requirements:

• 6–7 years of experience in automation engineering or infrastructure-as-code roles within Azure environments

• Demonstrated success in building automated cloud environments and enabling scalable infrastructure patterns

• Experience working closely with software or platform engineering teams to deliver automated infrastructure

• Background supporting cloud workload migrations and cross-team platform initiatives
